explore52 - 13/13

A happy Good Friday to all of you that celebrate it, I hope you have a nice relaxing weekend planned with your families and friends. I am keeping this post quite short (I got to get going with the biccies and buns and bits!). I just need to tell you that I finally checked out the updated Whole Bagel in Bath and it didn't disappoint. I used to hit their take away when I worked in town to grab lunch and was really pleased to see that they have managed to put in seating now too. The new place is fresh, bright and chilled with the same great selection of eats and treats. Go find them next time you're in town xx

I went for the classic New Yorker on multi seed that came with a Mediterranean couscous salad. Yum.

Eats - Lavender Easter Biscuits

Good morning! So we are a few days from the Easter weekend and it is time for my little contribution for your baking pleasure. Every year on Easter Sunday a bunch of us meet up for a picnic where we play games and eat lots. We usually each bring sweet treats to share and this year I'm going with biscuits. I do love a traditional spiced Easter biscuit, but they aren't to alls taste so thought that I would make some delicate lavender biscuits to hand out as well.

200g plain flour
75g golden caster sugar (plus extra for dusting)
100g unsalted butter
1 egg, separated
2tbsp warm milk
1tsp dried lavender
few drops vanilla essence
pinch salt

  • Set oven to 200*c (fan 180), gas 6 and line 1-2 baking trays with greaseproof paper.
  • Cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Beat in the egg yolk.
  • Sift the flour and salt into the bowl and fold in to the creamed mixture along with the lavender, vanilla essence and milk until you have slightly soft dough.
  • Knead very lightly and roll out on to a floured surface to about 1/2 cm thick.
  • Cut out your desired shapes and place on the baking tray/s. You should yield approx. 20-25 biscuits.
  • Bake for 8 minutes, remove from the oven and wash with the egg white, sprinkle with sugar and bake for a further 3 minutes.
  • Cool on a wire rack and tie up bundles with pretty ribbon.

I went for a bunny cutter but you could choose any shape you like.

What Easter treats have you got planned?

Make - mood board makeover

I recently read this great 5 minute DIY post on the craft blog creme de la craft on how to pretty up your bulletin board with a glue gun, pins/tacks and some artificial flowers, so simple but incredibly beautiful. I am intending to do this as my studio walls are covered in pins that would be much improved with some spring flowers.
However, I haven't yet found any flowers to use but I did find these cute little crochet bits at my local haberdashers, The Makery Emporium in Bath, which I felt would make a nice starting point for this project.

Take a look at the post for yourself and see what you can do too.

Explore52 - 12/13

A few weeks ago a new eatery opened up in Bath called Bill's and as my instagram 52 project is about exploring my city I thought I better have peep. "But new places are opening all the time" I hear you say, well yes this is true, but this one is going to be one of my new favourites as the food is delicious, the staff were super friendly and although this appears to be a chain (not one I'd heard of before) the decor makes it feel cosy and independent, so shush up and go check it out. You can visit their website here and find out about their menus, locations and even go to the online shop to pick up their own produce which is also sold in the restaurant.

Oh yeah, happy first day of spring people! xx

explore52 - 11/13

Good morning, how are you on this fine day? Cold? Excited for the weekend? All of the above?
Well what a week it has been, I'm still buzzing from the great response I've had for my new range of rings and things and totally chilled from the day spent catching up with old friends. I almost forgot my 52 project (I did warn you that my dedication to these types of things is likely to wane!), but here is an instagram I took on another walk of another old pub in Bath. The Pulteney Arms is an 18th century pub that is tiny, tucked away but very popular with the Bath Rugby crowd.

Have you got any hidden gems tucked away in your town?

new collection - part one

I know! I'm late posting today and actually I am changing my posting days as well as I have been super busy with designing my new collection. There are some new items in my etsy shop today that are inspired by ancient folklore and country wisdom. I am very proud of these original designs and hope you like them.

"Every cloud has a silver lining."

"Shoo shoo seagull, away from the sand. There's always bad weather when you come inland."

In the northern hemisphere, before the use of the calendar we use today, the year was divided in to 12 moons (moonths) that were described by what was happening in the natural world/countryside at the time. So if your birthday is in January you were born under a wolf moon, sweet no?

That's me for today, I'm off to the spa tomorrow to get over the excitement of it all! xx

Make - paper flowers

Good morning, I hope you are looking forward to a great weekend, I am as I will be attending another great market this Sunday at Green Park Bath and as it is Mothering Sunday here in the UK there is going to lots of wonderful things going on. Magpie and I markets are joining in the fun with a vintage tea party, live music and lots of lovely stalls for you to treat mum. Come along if you can, we will be there between 10am and 4pm.

As Mothers Day is upon us I thought I would share a little make with you, it is a great thing to do with your kids so they can make a card for granny.

What you need...

A template or two flower shapes - one slightly smaller than the other, some pretty paper, a blank card and envelope, some brads and any other embellishments you may want to add.

Draw around your template on to the paper, you will need 2 large cutouts and 1 small for each flower.

Next you need to fold the cutouts, on the black lines fold inwards so the pattern is on the inside and on the white lines fold in the opposite direction so that the pattern is on the outside. Open out and your 'petals' should now be 3 dimensional.

Layer the cutouts so the smallest is on the top and carefully push a brad through the centre and open it at the back to secure. Pinch in the folds to make them more defined.

Finally move the layers so the lay in alternate directions and give a more 3D effect. Use to decorate your greetings card.

I apologise that the photo's aren't great but they were taken on a very grey and rainy day!

Have you anything nice planned this weekend?
